The officer was riding a motorcycle when he collided with a Toyota Avensis
A police officer has died after he crashed his motorcycle in Sheffield during a pursuit.
The 40-year-old was pursuing a silver BMW, which had failed to stop for officers, when he collided with a blue Toyota Avensis on Nether Lane, in the Ecclesfield, at around 1pm on April 21.
South Yorkshire Police say the officer was pronounced deceased shortly after the collision and the 59-year-old man who was driving the Toyota has been taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The officer's name has not been revealed yet.
A police spokesman said: "Our specialist officers are supporting the officer family and the driver of the Avensis. "The road remains closed at this time and drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible as enquiries continue.
"No further information will be provided this evening."
