Neurolinguistic Workshop for Firearms Instructors
Firearms Trainers…..
If I were to tell you that the average class of firearms students speak three languages you’d probably raise your eyebrow. If I told you that if someone is doodling as you instruct they are more than likely paying exquisite attention to you, you’d probably raise your second eyebrow. Having run out of eyebrows what would you do if I were then to say that some students need to ‘feel’ how to shoot?
Yet these are simple factors that manifest in the average classroom or range. Factors that if not understood by the trainer can impact on the success of the session and mar the safe learning environment we all seek to achieve.
The above are but a few of the many fascinating subjects covered by the PFOA’s Neurolinguistic Workshop for Firearms Trainers.
Facilitated by Steve Cherry and Ben Lacey, who are both master practitioner in Neurolinguistic as well as retired Firearms Trainers from the Metropolitan Police, the workshop introduces current firearms trainers to a range of linguistic tools that will enhance both the ability of the trainer to communicate and the capability of the student to understand.
Interesting and fun to learn. The workshop can be provided at three different levels.
Workshop 1
This is a four hour classroom based session during which the clients will be introduced to
- Representational systems, what they are and how they apply to firearms training
- Rapport skills
- Language patterns
- Anchoring
- Debriefing tools
- Target analysis tools
- Feedback strategy tools
Workshop 2 (Simulation training)
This is a three hour classroom based workshop that has been developed to introduce firearms trainers to better understand the effects of stress on actual student performance and skills.
It is unique in that the session is run using experienced AFOs as students with firearms trainers observing. At the end of the simulation exercises and student debriefs the session continues for trainers only.
This fascinating workshop provides trainers with additional tools to help students better understand their performance and create strategies to help them identify and deal with the limitations that stress can place upon them operationally.
This workshop can be adapted for use in basic AFO training as a stand alone package.
Combined Workshop
This is a six hour integration of workshop 1 and 2 and is designed to provide trainers with a comprehensive and effective toolset within a single day of training.
All workshops involve hands on participation by those attending and are designed to be interesting, fun and informative. The workshops are not designed to influence or alter the training content already provided by the trainers. Rather it is geared towards giving experienced trainers additional tools that will enhance the instructional experience for both trainer and student.
