Training Blog 1
After the shock of actually agreeing to attempt the ride I have dusted of my bike (Claud Butler Milano) had It serviced and set up my turbo trainer in my garage gym. I must confess, although I do exercise regularly, its nice to have a goal to aim for.
I have set up an excel spreadsheet to monitor my training. I intend to increase my saddle time over the months slowly so that I am still able to walk! I got some good advice from 'Ali" one of the team, who rather delicately explained to me the benefits of Assos Cream!! I have been scanning the various bike shop websites looking for decent clothing and maybe even a new bike depending on what my wife says....who said I am under the thumb!
I started my training on Sunday 9th January. I weighed myself....ouch...15 stone! I am 5'11.
Week 1. I managed 6.5 hours in the saddle. I also play badminton twice a week with some local mates which is great exercise as well. The cream really works! My bike is just about set up properly now. I will be going out on the road very soon. I weighed myself after 1 week and put on weight....how can that be? but I feel a lot healthier, and my trousers fit better!
Have ordered a new Pearl Izumi cycling bib, got it from Amazon...£49 what is it with kit and police officers!!
Team PFOA is taking shape, Karl calls me at least twice a day to update me on routes, sponsorship and his training. Roger our Head of Fund raising is also doing the ride, although he has not started his training yet...I know this as I sat next to him the other day in a hotel where he demolished 10 profiterolls with chocolate sauce...apparently he was building up his carbs!
